ACTIVITIES

SCOPE
Currently, one of the major problems of society focuses on the growing increase of diseases that have their origin in several risk factors, including stress, pollutants, dietary habits among others. In order to minimize this problem, the international community has developed great efforts around the discovery of new bioactive compounds, as well as in deepening the knowledge of the health benefits that other compounds already on the market present.
These bioactive compounds have several origins, with microbiological sources being of great relevance in this sector, such as bacteria and fungi, or new sources, such as microalgae. The PhytoBlueFrac project meets this purpose, developing innovative nutraceutical products that will not only meet some daily nutritional needs, but also fight and prevent several diseases that affect the world population.

Through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA), Iceland, Liechtenstein and
Norway are internal market partners with the Member States of the European Union.
As a way of promoting a continuous and balanced strengthening of economic relations
and commercial, the parties to the EEA Agreement have established a Financial Mechanism
multi-year grant, known as EEA Grants.
EEA Grants aim to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe
and strengthen bilateral relations between these three countries and the beneficiary countries.
For the period 2014-2021, a total contribution of 2.8 billion euros was agreed
for 15 beneficiary countries. Portugal will benefit from a budget of 102.7 million euros.
