PhytoBlueFrac

Development of nutraceutical products derived from lipid fraction for human health application

ABOUT

The PHYTOBLUEFRAC project is promoted by the company Phytoalgae, Lda in partnership with the University of Madeira for the development of new food supplements derived from the lipid fraction, which originate from the biomass of microalgae, and which have a high nutraceutical capacity capable of preventing and treating certain diseases that plague the world's population.

SCOPE

Currently, one of the major problems of society focuses on the growing increase of diseases that have their origin in several risk factors, including stress, pollutants, dietary habits among others. In order to minimize this problem, the international community has developed great efforts around the discovery of new bioactive compounds, as well as in deepening the knowledge of the health benefits that other compounds already on the market present.

These bioactive compounds have several origins, with microbiological sources being of great relevance in this sector, such as bacteria and fungi, or new sources, such as microalgae. The PhytoBlueFrac project meets this purpose, developing innovative nutraceutical products that will not only meet some daily nutritional needs, but also fight and prevent several diseases that affect the world population.
